I’ve become really fascinated with the ways elections can be manipulated and probable will be in the future. Don’t think that this is a place for you to learn from me how to do it.
But I will tell you what I thought I might try. I am slowly learning about marketing on the Internet. For a while I was thinking it might make sense to try to sell some product on the Internet and I knew I could go to Bangkok and there were places where there are shops representing factories producing really cool stuff. People in America might look on the Internet and see cool stuff that they think is made in China and they think those prices are low. But I discovered that a lot of things that they might think are from China are actually made in Bangkok, or at least the same things. (These days it’s impossible to know who is copying from whom) But I got the idea that I can sell that. But I don’t have any money to go into that big time. So, I thought to myself Nah. I can’t do that.
And then I discussed this with my techie friend and got a different idea. Instead of selling this just on the Internet like anyone else would do. Maybe I can focus on just certain sections. If I found someone really cool things and I could afford to buy, say, 100 pairs of a sexy new type of shorts, can I sell that just in Cleveland using internet?
And I still want to try that someday.
But because I’m interested in the process of influencing elections, that is more important to remember now. With more study and more thought to this I discovered that if I came up with an advertisement, for example which says –
Democrats plan to take everybody’s guns away.
That would be a very political kind of advertisement to use if you’re a politician who would be in favor of gun rights. So, how would you do that? First you would get the necessary data needed to influence the people you want vote your way. Maybe you have or could get access could get access to membership members of the American Rifle Association, other organizations that are in favor of guns, maybe even militia group membership. And with that kind of contact information, you are all set. The capacity to sort via modern large computers can be shocking. It is possible to sort out those not likely to vote your way, only include those whom who to scare to not missing your way, what you want to do is make sure that after you’ve send your carefully crafted message you want to put it away so no one else will have a way react to it.
This process gives you the ability to direct your special advertising to either sell shorts in Cleveland or to sell volatile political messages only where it will do the most good.
This is much different than anything else I’ve talked about regarding the shenanigans related to election manipulations year, but I can assure that these kinds of processes will evolve until no one will eventual know who deserves to represent us in a democracy.
Needless to say if even a guy like me can learn to sell shorts in Cleveland and in Tampa the next week many other people can figure out how manipulate in more sophisticated ways than this.
But it did cross my mind as to who might pay me to manipulate an election result?
