How ’bout a book?
A Surin expat called John Kane, wrote a pretty good book about sex work in Thailand back in 2021. Lonely Sex Tourist Since then he has learned more. First, he realized there are many books about sex work and almost all of them, even by respected academics, soon start to sound like travel guides. Where are the sex workers? What is the price? How should the customer behave? How will the sex worker behave? And that sort of thing. But John gave new thought to his book and realized it was different. John talked about skewed gender relations, financial inequality in rural Thailand, and misunderstanding of sex-workers.
Although sex-workers are often demonized, John found nice people, Normal people. Dangers imply that their experience on the job is often exaggerated. John realized that his book offers a more sociological/demographic understanding.
John enjoyed being a writer but never tried to sell his book.
For a while, Amazon.com listed Lonely Sex Tourist online for $20. John paid no attention no attention to sales. And, surprise, in 2024 he found he had a bag full of his book sitting around. And in which he has new pride.
The books are available now in either English or Thai. Send your address and either 250 Thai Baht or 5 US dollar and John, himself, will sign the book and send it to you in the post the very next day.
