Earlier I wrote about the incredible changes in the stock market a little while ago, I talked about a very good book called the man who solved the market and that man is Jim Simmons who launched the quant revolution. Revolution. Quant is a general term used in the computer world and in the stock market business that is used as terms for the increase in use of computerization to investigate or to be more accurate invest in the stock market.

Until fairly recently all stock market decisions were arrived at with the trained intuition of investors who also studied the data that was available to them. As the computer revolution continued to grow more and more people had hopes of being able to win in the stock market through the use of their equipment and their computer knowledge. But it didn’t go so well money was lost fancy computer algorithms failed. But more and more mathematics geniuses if I might say and bigger and bigger faster computers have become available to the point where are the traditional methods of stock market evaluations are steadily giving away to what’s called the quant revolution that was explained in the book that I referred to just now but I’ve continue to learn in other ways. And remember my background includes some experience of my own with computers and also telecommunications I was with the United States Department of state put adjusting antennas on the roof of embassies dealing with classified communications.
So I admit I had no interest in the stock market myself but I had a bit of knowledge about what could happen in technology. And surprise I will now share with you some thoughts I’ve put together. I mentioned Robert Merser and his daughter in an earlier article about the quant revolution (both by the way with PhDs in science) now I will saw more about them and people like them can do. Recently presidential candidate Donald Trump telling his would be voters that they must vote this time and maybe they won’t ever have to vote again. That was never explained but maybe it was a precursor of the years ahead when huge computers gather the necessary data to be controlled by the largest computers and the parties that have control of that will be the ones that make the election decisions. That seems kind of science fiction like and yes I agree.
But I will try to explain at least as best I can with my primitive mathematics skills thankfully it’s not those skills that we need to all understand if that’s what we want to have happen to us. Frankly I prefer democracy.
The United states has a system where certain states and in a moment I’ll remember and be able to give you the name of it and this is where states count their votes in an election for president especially, and that state gets a certain number of delegates to go to Congress and it’s those delegates who actually vote on the president this was designed by Congress ohh maybe 200 years ago I don’t know for sure to help equality between smaller States and larger states. I’m not qualified to defend or explain this but that’s the way it is right now there is increased interest in eliminating that process so that all votes of all people are counted to determine who will be president parenthesis and vice president by the way). But progress is slow to change to a popular vote.
There are politicians and there are wealthy influencers who like the old way. I will tell you something now that will help you understand who those people are a shocking number of presidents in recent times have been elected that had not received the popular vote most recently is Donald Trump in 2015 Hillary Clinton had significantly more voters from the broader population then she did from the Electoral College it’s the Electoral College that has no business deciding who presidents are! But if people want republican presidents and everything they stand for and if people want to have presidents that have extreme views they get plenty of support to not change anything and that’s what’s happening right now.
Here’s what I figured out in an earlier article I read about how I was in Thailand and stumbled across an example of Fox News from the network which in the upper left corner screen said Yotus, a widespread grocery store. Under that in small letters it said Macau. To me Macau is a Chinese city famous for gambling. OK but that’s where I found the Fox News which program the Fox News program went on to tell us that they had a documentary to offer it really wasn’t explained where it came from but it was so extreme so shocking to me because it was about homeless people and crime in California cities all managed by Democrats.
This was a huge smear on democratic management and trust me the difference between management in a place like Los Angeles is is different than you might find in Tampa FL or even Atlanta or any of the small cities in the Deep South Republicans win where they can and Democrats struggle where they must. That’s certainly my impression but if you were a republican fan of extreme politics and you saw my experience with Fox News which maybe I was never expected to see in in Thailand you 2 would think Democrats are nothing but horrible and the Republicans are the salvation of your life capital
but what I also talked about earlier is that television programming and network programming is no different than radio used to be still may still be just the same on radio they are packaged and they are sold at higher low prices according to the content. Which stations whether radio or TV our networks are willing to buy based on how they view there customers and also their culture. I happen to be staying in Thailand in a cheap $50 a night hotel I would not be surprised if I went down to the Marriott paid 200 a night and got a completely different selection of news networks I could have seen then instead of the most extreme versions of fox I might have seen CDs ABC’s Deutsche Vela or something with some real class in it but no I got the shaming of Democrats.
So the next thing to consider is what kind of version of Fox News will I get in the suburbs of Washington DC and again what version of Fox News will I get in rural areas of the Deep South?
And that’s the reason why I see Fox voters and fans on some newscasts being interviewed by people and they look like they’ve got a stupid stare in their eyes and maybe they do. There must be a lot of people with maybe a little bit better education a little bit of cultural background political background who cannot understand why anyone votes for Donald Trump and this might be part of the reason.
Don’t forget that Fox News and several other newer extreme “journalistic” sources and I use that word hesitantly, might exactly what the broader audience is are happy to get. It feeds their fears. And wealthy providers to the Republican Party or other extremist political groups can provide lower prices than a TV station or a radio station would have to pay for modern first-class journalism.
And of course, this is mostly my opinion I don’t participate in that market but some people who should understand these things should understand these things very well for their own survival. The Democratic Party is not in the business of understanding the marketplace of radio stations television stations and Internet networks too. Of course not.
But as you and I on the sidelines have no confidence in what we’re seeing. What we’re learning about politics political activities any, new laws and so on. We will turn around some day and wonder why certain of our traditioneedoms have disappeared. Some examples are already obvious. Abortion rights.
